Chilli Idly

Oil Free Chilli idly makes an awesome lunch box recipe for kids. This Chilli idly fry is a dry preparation following an Indo Chinese version. Instead of having a same Idly’s and Chutney, we can try Chilli idly’s and kids will love this for sure. Asusual this recipe is Gluten free, Oil free, Diary free!!

Ingredients needed

Idlis                            –     10

Onion                        –      1

Tomato                     –      1

Green Chilli              –      2

Ginger Garlic Paste –      1 Spoon

Red chili powder     –      1 spoon

Curry leaves             –      1 sprig

Coriander leaves     –      1 spoon

Salt                             –      As Required

Mustard Seeds         –       1 spoon

Method

  1. Chop the idlis into big chunks.
  2. Chop the onions and tomato into chunks and keep it ready.
  3. Place a griddle/tawa and keep the fire on medium and add one tablespoon of mustard seeds, Sliced Green Chilles and Curry Leaves.
  4. Add onions, Ginger Garlic Paste and sauté till the onions turn translucent.
  5. Add chopped Tomatoes and cook for another 2 mins till it wilts.
  6. Add  turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, mix well. Add 2 tbsp water and let it cook for 2-3 mins.Add the idli pieces and mix well.Increase the flame to full and let the mixture cook for 3-4 minutes.

Notes:

I find that the left over idlis that were refrigerated gets shallow fried or grilled easily as it holds its shape well.

Chilli idli is ready to be served or packed off in a lunch box.
